  • Don’t prune any spring flowering shrubs. These plants are within 3 weeks of completing buds for the next year’s flowers
  • Divide overgrown perennials
  • Plant trees and shrubs. Plant perennials from seed
  • Stop fertilizing trees and shrubs to allow them to harden off for winter
  • September is one of the best months for seeding new lawns and aeration

  • Soil should be moist 3-4 inches deep to insure that the water is reaching the root zone of the plants.
  • Uncontrolled Crabgrass is going to seed and produce over 60,000 seeds per plant.
  • Keep birdbaths filled daily to keep birds from migrating to other yards

  • Plant from seed, fall vegetable garden
  • Grass and shrub beds usually needs an inch of water per week
  • Try to water in the AM hours so that the leaves can dry off before the hot sun hits them
  • Avoid using fertilizers in hot, dry weather
  • Scatter 2 handfuls 0-40-0 Super Phosphate to acid flowering shrubs to get heavy buds for the next year
